Rating – (7) Rambo
Strength – (1-2) Bruce
Vitola – Toro
Price – 5 pack for $32.99 over at Famous Smoke
Wrapper –  Connecticut Ecuadorian
Binder – Costa Rican
Filler – Panamanian, Honduran, and Nicaraguan
Drink – Dr. Pepper

Fired this one up from Famous Smoke for the morning drive.  This is a fantastic morning smoke and would have been so much better with some coffee I think.  I started to drink more coffee these days and cigars go so well with it but I had to run quick and just grabbed a Dr. Pepper.  This one is going to be on the lighter side of things but has some wonderful flavors to it.  I love a cigar with some good smoke to it as well and this one had it.  For the size and price of these you can’t beat them for a wonderful morning smoke.  Pick them up over at Famous Smoke Shop.

American Sun Grown by Alec Bradley

Price – Submitted by Famous Smoke Shop for review (5 pack for $24.99) Buy the American Sun Grown at Famous Smoke Shop
Beverage – Bottled Water
Size – Robusto (5 X 50)
Strength – Demi (2/4)
Rating – Sabotage (6/10)

Composition:

Wrapper – Nicaraguan Habano (Sun Grown)
Binder/Filler – Nicaraguan

I had zero idea what to expect when I fired up the American Sun Grown (“ASG”), but was excited to see what the sun grown wrapper could do. Here are my thoughts:

1) Great burn, draw, construction

2) This is a solid medium stick, perfect for a lighter veteran smoke or a rookie looking to build their tolerance levels by taking that next step.

3) I found this to be a predominantly leathery smoke

4) My smoke time was one hour

Now to the two questions:

1) Would I smoke it again? Yes

2) Would I give it humidor space? Yes

Again we find ourselves discussing value. The ASG can be had for $5/stick and can serve multiple roles in your humidor. We already discussed the tolerance building aspect, but also can be a nice quicker smoke if you’re in a time crunch. We cannot stress enough the importance of building your humidor with various role players and this fits the “solid, quick smoke, at a great value” role.

American Sun Grown can be purchased at Famous Smoke Shop

Until next time friends!

Met up with Big Jim and Shane today to have a New Years day smoke. Picked up this AB on a whim. This is a funky shaped cigar but it turned out pretty good. This cigar was a very smooth, mild, great mid afternoon smoke. It’s not as strong and flavorful as I would have liked but made up for it in price. Would I smoke this again? Actually I probably would based on the price and size of the cigar alone. For a $7 cigar, if I don’t want something stronger, this one does the trick.

Prensado by Alec Bradley

image

Price – $11

Beverage – Chocolate Milkshake

Strength – Demi (2/4)

Rating – Sabotage (6/10)

The Prensado is my first Alec Bradley ever and was recommended to me by Hussein at Hollywood Smokes as it was at one point his go to cigar. Here are my thoughts on it:

1) I didn’t think much of it the first 1/3 and I looked at Hussein like, man are you serious? This was your go to?

2) It really smoothed out about half way through and started to remind me of a My Father cigar, namely the La Flor De Antilles with a touch more strength.

3) Speaking of strength, for me the Prensado was a mid-level Demi.

4) The more I got into it, the more of a coffee like taste the cigar had and got pretty good towards the end.

5) The Prensado is yet another well constructed, nicely wrapped, box press cigar that produced quite a bit of smoke.

Now to the two questions:

Would I smoke it again? Not at $11, but if they were on special for $8-9 I would grab another one.

Would I give it humidor space? No I would not, I believe this cigar is over priced especially when you can get similar My Father sticks for $2-3 cheaper.

The Prensado is a solid cigar with good flavor, however as Drew has stated in some of his posts, you get to that $10+ range there are a whole lot of other options. In both of our opinions, you get north of $10 a stick needs to be more than solid to get our hard earned money (hard earned being relative here, my boss may beg to differ). If you can get a deal on these below $10, I’d consider it a buy, otherwise I feel your money is better spent elsewhere. Thanks for the recommendation Hussein!
