EPC Short Run 2016

img_2223

Rating – (8) Expendables
Strength – (2-3) sly
Vitola – Toro 6″ x 52
Price – $10
Wrapper – Ecuador Habano
Binder – Nicaragua
Filler – Nicaraguan long fillers, including some Criollo ’98 leaf from the Somoto region of Nicaragua
Drink – Dr. Pepper slushy

Back at it again, EPC always gets it done in my opinion. Great smooth start, excellent burn, very good rich flavors. The tobaccos in the filler are on the rarer side of things and have some good age to them, you tell right away with how the flavors all mix well and with no harshness to them. They come in boxes of 10 and only made 2,500 boxes so if you can get ahold of them I would highly suggest trying this one. Pick a few up and smoke em while you got em.

2015 Limited Edition by E.P. Carrillo

Rating – (9) Rocky IV
Strength – (3-4) Arnold
Vitola – 6×54
Price – $15.25
Wrapper – Connecticut broadleaf
Binder – Nicaragua
Filler – Nicaraguan
Drink – Dr. Pepper

Well another amazing EPC you need to get your hands on right away.  So, I have waited to review this one until I had smoked a few more, not because I was unsure of my stance on the review, but because I wanted to get them smoked before anyone else could buy them.  These are amazing and if you were around to smoke EPC 2012 it’s going to be similar.  Once again always amazing quality from anything EPC, the first light is smooth and sweet.  The Connecticut Broadleaf has a wonderful sweet Maduro taste to it and is offset with the wonderful (earthy)  flavors from the Nicaraguan binder and filler. I know we always talk about the rating of a cigar depending on the price and this one is what I would say is on the high side of things but it is a limited edition and for me that makes it worth it,  so once I have bought them all you will not be able to get them again. Buy them while you can!

E.P. CARRILLO 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

image

Rating – (7) Rambo
Strength – (2-3) Sly
Vitola – Toro
Price – $8.50
Wrapper – Ecuadorian Sumatra
Binder – Ecuadorian Corojo ’99
Filler – Nicaragua (Estelí, Condega & Jalapa)
Drink – Dr. Pepper

This is EPC 5 year anniversary of their limited edition line that they put out every year. I absolutely love pretty much anything EPC puts out and the limited series never disappoints. This is a dark, rich smoke, on the stronger side of things for most people. This was a little cheaper then most of their Limited stuff as well and very worth the price if you can still find them out there it’s a wonderful smoke. Definatly if you have never had anything by EPC pick some up to try. The cigar has lovely dark flavors and would be complemented with any kind of darker drink or beer if you are looking for something to go with this cigar. I usually smoke most of my cigars with a Dr. Pepper or coffee.

Strength – Demi/Sly (2.5/4)
Rating – Rambo (7/10)

Composition:

It is pretty much a known fact that EP Carrillo is a top notch dude that makes excellent cigars. At this point in our evolutionary blog cycle, I believe we have adequately demonstrated we are fans of EP Carrillo cigars. Now with that all out of the way, this was my first two go rounds with the Oscuro and here are my thoughts:

1) Excellent construction, excellent burn, great draw

2) Good medium-full cigar, won’t knock you out. However, I don’t recommend rookies or guys still smoking during their rookie contracts to take these lightly.

3) Great flavor, some earthiness, woodiness, and I even got hints of mint chocolate

4) Smoke time was one hour and ten minutes

Now to the two questions:

1) Would I smoke it again? Yes

2) Would I give it humidor space? Yes

You roll a cigar with a good price point, good flavor, and has good construction at an approximately $8 price point and you’ve hit your target. The Oscuro robusto fits wonderfully into the humidor providing you with a quicker medium full smoke.

2015 Short Run by E.P. Carrillo

Price – $7.25
Beverage – Water the first time, Dr. Pepper the second time
Size – Vencedores (Toro – 6 X 52)
Strength – Sly (3/4)
Rating – Rocky IV (9/10)

Tale of the Tape:
Wrapper – Criollo 98 (Jalapa)
Binder – Nicaraguan
Filler – Dominican/Nicaraguan

I’ve been on this major EP Carrillo kick lately as evidenced by our Instagram and Twitter accounts. I’m almost starting to feel like a high school kid finding his sweetheart. These cigars have been amazing, from the Limited Edition 2012/2013 to the Especiale Churchill and now the 2015 Short Run. Here are my thoughts on the 2015 Short Run:

1) Excellent construction, great burn, easy draw

2) Solid Sly on the richter scale, it’ll shake ya up a little bit without some food, but will leave you intact overall.

3) Tasted that sweet maduro, licorice like taste. Additionally, you can expect a little spice, cedar, and an earthiness to the smoke.

4) My smoke time was one hour and forty minutes

Now to the two questions:

1) Would I smoke it again? Yes

2) Would I give it humidor space? Yes and I’m calling the 2015 Short Run a box worthy cigar

Anytime you can combine a great price point, great taste with good flavor transitions, and great construction you’re on to something and that’s what EP does on the 2015 Short Run. If you’re a maduro smoker and find these at your various stomping grounds, don’t be shy and pick them up.

Until next time my friends!

Let me start of with saying how excited I have been to smoke this cigar, I picked it up a week or two ago and it has just been sitting in my travel humidor taunting me everytime I open it. I have been out of town for work and just didn’t get a chance to sit down with this one until now.

This cigar just looks like it is going to be good, it has a nice dark oily wrapper, on first lite it has a nice smooth draw with amazing smoke. I don’t want to give it all away but this cigar was amazing from start to finish. This is one of those that I was not ready to put out. I would rate this one on the stronger side of a Demi to a lower level Sly for sure. The flavor complements the strength of this cigar perfectly. Will I buy these again? Absolutely, I am going to say that for $8.50 these are definitely box worth and honestly I would almost relate them to an LFD Oro 6. Once again just a wonderful cigar and really at a budget price I feel like.

I fired this bad boy up as a lunch smoke today, and man was I pleased! I have had a few disappointing smokes recently and this one made up for them all. I have been trying to get my hands on anything E.P. Carrillo makes and this one was no different from the rest, absolutely fantastic!
This cigar just feels like it’s going to smoke well. It has a wonderful burn, excellent smoke, and the draw was just perfect. The flavor of this cigar is smooth and creamy. It is not too strong, but just strong enough to make it a great cigar.
This Cigar is a little on the pricey side at $15. However, it only comes out once annually, so I am willing to pay the price and I plan to pick up a few more. This is not an everyday smoke but good for a change-up when you just feel like something different. So with that being said, it’s going to get some humidor space (if I can find any more).

Decided to pick up another E.P Carrillo after smoking the last one, fired this one up to see what it was all about. I have seen some bad reviews about this one when it first came out back in 2013, I’m not sure if they changed something or not but I thought all in all this was a good little cigar. This cigar started off pretty mild actually and changed to a fuller bodied cigar into the 2nd half, I really enjoyed the change, it almost prepped you for the changed instead of just hitting you head on. I loved the smoke coming from this little cigar, it was very thick and full, probably not one you would want to smoke in the car, it had an almost Nica Rustica smoke to it. I would venture to say that it had a lot of the same qualitys as the Dirty Rat as well, great smooth flavors with the excelent change in the middle of the smoke, it seemed to mild back out again at the end, almost as if to say “das ist genug für heute” my favorite German saying, “That’s enough for today”.

The Cigar Aficionado number 2 cigar of 2014. Wow that’s a big title for a cigar and even bigger shoes for it to fill, and this one delivered it all the way. I met up with Brock tonight and fired this cigar up, but not before stoping to pick up a Dr. Pepper slushy, because that’s what makes an evening of cigar smoking even better. This cigar from first light was smooth, excellent draw, great flavors, and just enough strength to it. I had never really heard of this cigar until over the weekend my local shop got them in.

So down to business, would I buy them again, yes absolutely. Would I let this one take up some coveted humidor space, well yes I would. I think this would be a great go to cigar when you want something stronger then normal but not overly strong. Get ahold of these while you can cause they are good.
