Beverage – Bottled Water
Size – Toro (6 X 54)
Strength – Demi (2/4)
Rating – Rambo (7/10)

Tale of the tape:
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra
Binder: Honduran
Filler: Nicaraguan

I fired up the Gilded Age a couple days after Drew did and for me this was quite a departure from what I have been smoking recently. With that being said, here are my thoughts:

1) Great construction, nice burn, easy draw

2) This was a solid medium body stick that can be enjoyed by rookies and veterans alike.

3) We would call the Gilded Age a woody smoke with a little sweetness to it. You’re not going to get crazy flavor transitions, but there’s a nice consistent taste throughout the smoke.

4) My smoke time was one hour and forty-five minutes

Now to the two questions:

Would I smoke it again? Yes – I really enjoyed the Toro size, perfect for when you want a longer smoke, but at the same time can’t commit your whole evening.

Would I give it humidor space? Yes

The Gilded Age was a pleasant change of pace for me and I really enjoyed it. This comes as no surprise, but Famous has these for a little over $5/stick for a five pack and you really can’t go wrong. If you’re typically a more full body smoker like me, the Gilded Age can serve as a nice step back on the strength scale. For a newer smoker, this cigar can serve as a very good tolerance builder. If you have a chance to smoke the Gilded Age, don’t be shy, give it a whirl.

Until next time friends!

Serie R Esteli by La Gloria Cubana

Rating – (6) Sabotage
Strength – (3) Sly
Vitola – No. 60
Price – $6.75
Wrapper – Nicaraguan (Jalapa Sol)
Binder – Nicaraguan
Filler – Nicaraguan
Drink – Dr. Pepper

Sorry guys it’s going to be a quick one, I have been sick off and on for about 2 month and finally fired this one up for a little review time.

My thoughts:

Great burn, great draw, wonderful flavor to this cigar. I am not a big fan of the Jalapa so this wasn’t in my wheel house as far as the flavor profile goes. If you do like the Jalapa I would definitely recomend you try this cigar. For the price it’s really good.

Medaille D’or No. 1 (Natural) by La Gloria Cubana

Price – Received in a trade
Beverage – Dr. Pepper
Size – 6 3/4 X 43
Strength – Demi (2/4)
Rating – Rambo (7/10)

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan/Dominican

I’m not sure where you can get the Medaille these days, but the No. 1 was included in a trade I did with a BOTL on Cigar Dojo. My first La Gloria was the Series R Maduro which was a very strong cigar. Note to our readers, if you do decide to spark up the Series R Maduro make sure you eat first. The Medaille was a lot tamer and here are my thoughts:

1) Good construction, good burn, good draw

2) Solid medium body cigar in my opinion and earns a Demi rating.

3) I tasted a little coffee like flavors with a little spice

4) My smoke time was one hour

Now to the two questions:

Would I smoke it again? Yes

Would I give it humidor space? Yes

I enjoyed the Medaille as a solid medium smoke and really liked the size of this cigar. I feel like it plays a great role in a humidor as a medium body smoke. Comparison wise, it’s similar to some of the Fuente cigars like the Chateau in my opinion. If you can find them, I’d certainly recommend giving them a shot.

Serie R Maduro by La Gloria Cubana

Price – Compliments of my brother Nas (usually $10-$12)

Beverage – Coke in a bottle

Strength – Sly (3/4)

Rating – Sabotage (6/10)

At Hollywood Smokes Saturday night, hanging out with my brothers (biological, not to be confused with Brothers of the Leaf – BOTL) Big Mike, Nas, and Ike and our friends Sal and Nick. I had seen some of the guys on Dojo smoking these, so I figured why not.

This is no doubt a full body cigar, I’m calling it a Sly, but this thing might actually be closer to an Arnold. If you’re going to give this stick a try, I recommend doing so after a meal. It is wrapped in a beautiful rich looking Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper and was rather spicy. I was a little skeptical at first as it started out similar to the Kristoff maduro and we all know how I felt about that, but it smoothed out a bit and just hit hard with the strength and a rich flavor. Now to the two questions:

Would I smoke it again? If I’m looking for a hard hitting smoke, ya I would smoke this again.

Would I give it humidor space? Not at this point, it will remain an in shop smoke for now.

Overall I really enjoyed smoking the La Gloria, however the price point hurts the rating a bit as you get into that $12+. At this price level I take the LFD Oro or the Sindicato maduro, or the Tat Cojonu over this as well if I’m in the mood for a full body stick.
