Leaf Sumatra by Oscar/Jim Robinson

Price – $11
Beverage – Dr. Pepper
Size – Toro (6 X 50)
Strength – Demi (2/4)
Rating – Rambo (7/10)

What it’s made of:
Wrapper – Ecuadorian Sumatra
Binder – Honduran
Filler – Honduran

It took us a while, but we have finally smoked all four of the Oscar Leaf offerings, concluding with the Sumatra. I grabbed this bad boy at Hollywood Smokes in Tinley Park, IL and here are my thoughts:

1) Every single Leaf cigar that I have smoked has had great construction, you could feel the quality and the Sumatra was no different. Great burn and easy draw made this an enjoyable and easy smoke.

2) I would call the Sumatra a solid medium body cigar so I’m calling it a Demi.

3) I picked up some pepper and earthy tastes in addition to faint hints of citrus.

4) My smoke time was one hour and twenty minutes

Now to the two questions:

Would I smoke it again? Yes

Would I give it humidor space? No

Here’s how the Leaf stacks up in my opinion based on my personal preferences:

1 – Maduro – This would be a humidor staple if it was easier to find and easily my favorite of the bunch
2 – Connecticut – I don’t smoke many Connecticuts, but if I’m going to have one around, this and the My Father CT have been my favorites.
3 – Sumatra – Enjoyable, but not humidor space worthy for me
4 – Corojo – Enjoyable smoke as well, but not humidor space worthy either

The nicest thing about the Leaf cigars is that between them, they offer something for almost all taste preferences. These are by no means value cigars, but the quality is evident and I don’t think the price tag should be a deterrent. If you get the chance to smoke one of these cigars, do yourself a favor and give them a shot. Regardless of taste preference, they really are enjoyable cigars.

So this is a really cool cigar, it looks odd when you first see it but it comes like this, wrapped up in a tobacco leaf.

Rating – (7-8) Expendables
Strength – (2-3) Sly
Vitola – Toro
Price – $8-10
Drink – Dr. Pepper

Once you open it up this magnificent cigar is waiting inside for you.

This one was gifted to me by Mo’s brother while I am in Chicago visiting the other half of the Sultans. I have been a little under the weather but this cigar made that all go away, on first light it has a very tasty, smooth smoke, the wrapper has a very nice maduro wrapper to compliment the flavors. I made this one last probably a good hour and a half. Now would I smoke this one again? Yes, not only did it have a cool appeal to it, but it was a damn good cigar as well. Would I put these in the humidor? They come in 10 packs and I was actually considering picking up a whole bundle of them.

I have now smoked the Corojo, Connecticut, and Maduro of the Leafs. The Maduro is my favorite one and packs a lot of flavor with a beautiful wrapper and excellent draw. I’m with Drew, these are definitely worth the humidor space and I will be buying more for myself.
