This is my second go round with the Southern Draw cigars, first time with the Kudzu, here are my thoughts:

1) Great construction, easy draw, excellent and even burn

2) I’m calling this an upper level Demi, bordering Sly. I could see this stick being a little on the stronger side though for rookies.

3) The Kudzu hit me with a little bit of spice and coffee flavor

4) My smoke time was one hour and fifteen minutes, but I nursed it

Now to the two questions:

1) Would I smoke it again? Yes

2) Would I give it humidor space? Yes

I really enjoyed the Kudzu and found it very smooth. I’d say it’s in the same neighborhood as the AJ Fernandez New World in terms of comparison purposes, so that’s damn good company. At roughly $8/stick you really can’t go wrong here, get yourself one and light it up!

Thank you to Southern Draw Cigars for sending us the Kudzu for review!

Drew and I came to know about Southern Draw cigars through our buddy Brock and as a result of that connection we were generously gifted some samples for review. Drew has already reviewed the Quick Draw. This is my first time with a Southern Draw and consequently my first time with the Firethorn, here are my thoughts:

1) Upon the first couple puffs, I thought to my self “man, this is very AJ Fernandezesque”, and sure enough come to find out these are manufactured at the AJ Fernandez factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. The Firethorn had a great draw, good burn, and good construction.

2) This is a solid Demi, you don’t need a meal before this cigar if you’re a veteran, but I would highly suggest it for newer smokers. Overall, a good medium smoke.

3) Flavor wise, you can except a nutty and spicy experience. Overall, the Firethorn had very good flavor transitions and kept me engaged for the entire smoke.

4) My smoke time was one hour

Now to the two questions:

1) Would I smoke it again? Yes

2) Would I give it humidor space? Yes

I feel confident in saying that if you’re an AJ Fernandez fan, which I happen to be, you will really enjoy the Firethorn. I really enjoyed this cigar and recommend giving it a shot.

Robert, thanks again for the cigars, I really enjoyed it!

Got a call from good ol Brocktail early in the evening, wanting to meet up for a smoke. He brought me this cigar to try out from one of his adventures around the country. This is a pretty small, quick smoke good for those times when you don’t have a ton of time. It is very smooth smoke, it has a very strong taste from the first draw but mellows out. There is really no after taste left in your mouth at all. Tail related it to a Papas Fritas by Drew Estate but cheaper, I would say that’s pretty true with this one. I would think with a little humidor time these would be excellent. Thanks Tail.
