In the guest podcast, I shared my grievances of Viaje’s unwillingness to disclose blend information. While that does irritate me, I still find enjoyment in trying new sticks even if I am flying in completely blind. In 2015/2016 we have a lot of choice on what to smoke, we truly are in a golden era. With FDA regulation looming, these LE’s may one day be a thing of the past.

The blend, after some research seems to be the same as in years prior, but different farm vintages. This means if you’ve smoked it in years prior you will definitely notice a change due to different growing conditions that are present in farm grown products.

The Experience-

As I light and begin my first draw I receive a taste of a very tart and citrusy fruit. Whoa, wasn’t expecting that from Criollo, or Aganarosa tobacco to be specific. As I continue to retro and smoke, I get a good amount of that Viaje un-refined spice in the retro, and that fruit is spot on with Grapefruit! Now that’s something new I haven’t yet tasted in a cigar. The second half, I still taste the same amount of citrus, but with some added white pepper and some slight hay notes. With the spice on the retro hardly changing. As the cigar nears the end, I start to get a significant profile change, with some added nuttiness, and some creaminess and maybe a pinch of cocoa.

Construction- Superb

Flavor Notes- Grapefruit, Citrus, Hay, White Pepper, Nuts

Smoke time- 1hour 10 minutes

Now to the two questions:

Would I smoke it again? Yes

Would I give it humidor space? I wouldn’t mind a fiver to see how they would age. Viaje is a hit or miss for me. I smoked this the week it came in, not sure if it was still young or if this was the intended experience. As it stands now, I am curious to see if the citrus was a one off, or if it will develop into something else. Some Viaje I’ve seen get better with age others…well not so much. I enjoyed the fact that this was something new, and something different. A nice change of pace cigar, but perhaps not something I will find myself reaching for often. Even though it wasn’t the most complex cigar, I am looking forward to seeing how this will develop or change in the upcoming months.

TNT (2015) by Viaje

Rating – (9) Rocky IV
Strength – (3-4) Arnold
Vitola – Double Robusto
Price – $11
Wrapper – Connecticut broadleaf
Binder – n/a
Filler – n/a
Drink – Dr. Pepper

Here we go ladies and gentlemen!!! This right here is the real deal for me, and if I might say cigar of the year for 2015 for me at least.  This dark broadleaf wrapper is perfect, very oily, thick, and just looks amazing and smokes even better. This cigar just has everything I am looking for,  the first light it is smooth but has complex flavors to it,  it is on the stronger side of things for most people so I would suggest eating something small at least.  This one stays smooth all the way to the nub, never got harsh or hot for me and I have smoked many of these now and they are all consistent.  These are box worthy and when I say that they do come in boxes of 50 and they are worth it.  These are also a one time deal so once they are gone that’s it until the next batch when viaje decides to make them again, and even then the blend will prob be different.  Get them while you can!

I keep coming back to Viaje, and once again tonight is no different. This is the Holiday Blend Candy Cane by Viaje.

At first look this this cigar is fantastic, it’s a barber pole style with chocolate looking wrappers, both ends are sealed up, while viewing this cigar my wife asked if it had a peppermint taste to it (candy cane). Well no it does not but its just as good as if it did. It really made me think of the holidays (probably just the name doing it) this cigar prob would have been good with one of those peppermint mocha drinks my wife drinks, just to add to the whole theme of it. So really down to the cigar was it good? Absolutely, I still have yet to find a Viaje I didn’t like. Would I buy more of these? This one the $12 price tag is really worth it, somewhat because you can only get these once a year, but the cigar was excellent as well. I really like the barber style cigars there days they are good change up from everything else. Try and get you some
Of these before they are gone this year.

Five Fifty Two By Viaje

Vitola – Rounded (also comes in box pressed)
Price – $10.50
Drink – Dr. Pepper

This cigar was gifted to me by Mike from a local cigar shop here in Tulsa, I met him last night and he gave me this cigar to try out. A little less known fact about this cigar is that it also comes in a box pressed version, but it’s kind of hidden. The first 2 rows are the rounded cigar and under a piece of cedar there are 5 box pressed cigars.

Ok once again this is a Viaje and I have never had a Viaje I didn’t like. The part that I don’t like about Viaje is the price of their cigars, I would love to smoke more of their stuff but most everything is close $10 or more and a very small cigar as well. This one is a really good smoke, great draw, great burn, wonderful flavor with the right amount of strength to it. Now would I pay $10.50 for another one…. I prob will just to try the box pressed one as well, would I stash some of these back in the humidor I am a little torn on this one, it was a really good smoke but for $10 I can get a lot of other cigars just as good or better. The one thing that is helping this one for me is I like good quick smokes sometime and this one meets those needs, I smoked it in about 45min. I would deffinatly recommend for you to try these out.

Thank you Mike for hooking me up with this wonderful cigar.

Another great cigar by Viaje right here. This one was gifted to me by Big Jim on Black Friday, when we met up to smoke. This is the Dark Meat version, as viaje does make a White Meat Stuffed Turkey cigar as well. All I have to say is this a fantastic cigar, very smooth draw, almost a sweet tobacco taste to it, but still very rich in its flavors. This cigar is a perfect quick smoke for Christmas morning or any other time for that matter. Viaje puts out some wonderful cigars and this one is no different, I would recommend getting your hands on a few of these if you can still. I will defiantly be picking up a few more to keep in the humidor.

Exclusivo Leaded By Viaje

Alright the Exclusivo Leaded by Viaje, I have started to be come a fan of Viaje cigars these days, the only thing holding me back is that they only make them in small batches. That just means if you like it you better buy as many as you can before they are gone because they will be different next go around. I have actually had this cigar before and it was originally recommended to me and Mo by the owner of Classic Cigars in Tulsa. It was really good the first go around and honestly just as good on the second smoke. Now this is a on the stronger side of the (3) Sly rating but not quite a (4) Arnold, very smooth cigar as well. I would buy these again as they come out just to see the difference. So yes I woulde but them again and I have had this one in my humidor for a few months now.

50/50 Black Label by Viaje

Rating – 6 Sabotage
Strength – 2 Demi Moore
Price – $7
Drink – Diet Coke with Splenda

This cigar was better then what I expected. I had heard mixed reviews about it and it turned out to be a really nice smooth cigar all the way to the end. I know Viaje changes up their cigars like most people change their underwear, so get ahold of a few of these if you can. It was a smaller size cigar which made for a quick smoke since it has been so cold around here which was also good.

Skull and Bones M?stery (2014) by Viaje

Drew

Rating – (6-7) Sabotage
strength – (3) Sly
Price – $7-8
Drink – Dr. Pepper

Got done with work early and hurried home to fire this little treat up. I wasn’t expecting much honestly because I have had other Viaje that just didn’t live up to the hype. This one actually did though. Great cigar from start to finnish. I took this one all he way to the nub with no problem. I did recommend it to some friends over the weekend that have now picked one up to try out as well. My only problem with this one is now I like it but they are a limited release so once they are gone that all for them.
